Lion Dr. Arigapudi Vijay Kumar is one of the rare people who personify their given names – He has seen Vijay (success) with every task he has undertaken in every field he has been associated with. Born in a family with high moral,ethical and philanthropic values to Sri Arigapudi Purnachandra Rao, Retd. Head Master and Smt. A.Nancharamma, Retd. Telugu Teacher, he grew up emulating his elders and learning the “Joy of giving”.

This learning he has been following throughout his illustrious life. He is a man who wears many hats and justifies each one of them. A Science Graduate with a PG Diploma in Computer Science, an accomplished sportsperson who has represented his Home State at National Level Championships and a successful industrialist.

He embarked on his journey in Lionism as the Charter Vice President of LC Jadcherla and progressed to assume greater roles within its ranks. He donated 20 acres of land worth 8 crores for the construction of Purnachandra Rao Memorial Market Yard which was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Y.S.Rajashekhar Reddy. He did this so that poor farmers need not travel long distances to sell crops. The market yard has given joy to farming families and Dr. AVK has often quoted that he derives immense pleasure from giving sustainable means of livelihood to these farming communities.

His philanthropy extends not only to the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden but also to the field of art and culture. In the same vein, he has also extended support to organisations supporting senior citizens, mental health institutions, orphans among others.

Dr. Vijay Kumar has remained a strong believer in leaving a legacy of giving. He often says, “Ichinde aasthi - We will not carry material wealth with us tomorrow. Whatever we leave in the minds and hearts of people is our true property.
Ensure you leave a legacy of generosity, not of possession.”

In line with this thought process, in the areas of art and culture, he has offered support and sustenance to hundreds of artist and artisan families. He has extended support to many socio-cultural organizations to protect and promote artistic efforts. He has also remained the Chief patron of many such organizations.

Considering his stellar work in Social service, art and culture, he was also bestowed an ‘’Honorary Doctorate’’ by the Universal Theological Open University in 2017. He was honored with this award by none other than Sri.Konijeti Rosaiah, former CM of erstwhile AP and Former Governor of Tamil Nadu State. Several other Socio-cultural organizations have conferred several titles"
